ScoliosisScoliosis is a sideways curvature and twisting of the spine that is most often is diagnosed in adolescents. Initial screenings can be performed by a healthcare provider if patients are showing symptoms. Official diagnosis of scoliosis is done by Xray. Doctors look at the shape of the curve (S or C) and also the degree/angle of the curve in order to classify your scoliosis. These factors help determine the best course of treatment Symptoms of scoliosis may include:
Patients who have mild scoliosis are monitored closely, usually with X-rays, to see if the curve is getting worse. Mild cases of scoliosis are treated with physical therapy. Some moderate cases or cases which are progressing may require a brace in addition to physical therapy. Severe cases of scoliosis may need surgery to straighten the curves.
