TMJ disorder is a term used to describe patients who have pain and/or dysfunction at their temporomandibular joint-also known as your jaw.
It can be frustrating and scary when something as simple as eating and talking cause pain. But the TMJ is a complicated joint that can cause a wide variety of symptoms.
While clicking/popping and pain with talking and chewing are the ‘classic’ signs of TMJ dysfunction; other symptoms can be as varied as:
Headache
Painful scalp
Tooth pain
Tooth grinding
Jaw locking
Eye pain
Tinnitus
Sensation of clogged ears (with no ear infection)
Vertigo/dizziness
Sore throat or cough
Difficulty swallowing, or feeling like something is stuck in your throat
